Lost some of my widgets but am slowly putting them back in.
It' s just fun playing around with "blogging" !!!

Thing #19: The Final Thing

I found a couple of kid’s songs on the folowing site: http://blog.jumpitz.com/index.php/2009/02/27/listen-and-download-free-kids-songs
I could listen to the song just fine, but I had to really search to find the place where to “save as” to my music files. I copied the song: the Mexican Hat Dance.
Hey, there are “tons” of free kid’s songs out there. I might even look for something for myself to download, that’s when my name is chosen TO WIN that mp3 player.

Thing #18: Web 2.0 Award Winners

I did a search in the section of
Classifieds and Directories: http://craigslist.org/

What is the purpose of the site?
Craigslist is an online community of buying and selling your "stuff".
How does it work?
When you log into the site, you go to the location (s) you want and then type into the Search area what you’d like to search for. I looked at house plants and found some good ones in Anchorage. Didn’t buy, just looked.
Why is it an award winner?
It's an award winner cuz it is used 24 hours a day. It’s like a large “garage sale” going on ALL the time.!!
You can buy or sell some cool stuff right next door or across the states or the world.
Would you use the site again?
Yes, I do. My husband found a snowplower attachment.
If so, how would you use it?
I can use it for myself or help others use it. Instead of selling things in my cold garage, I can just put them on CraigsList.
Does it have an application for the library? I don't think that this particular site has any value for library use, but because patrons use the site when they're on the internet, they sometimes need computer help. I've helped a patron find and log onto CraigsList. They didn’t know how to locate that site on their own.

You will see it as : Library Storytime
This is also a pretty cool site. It allows you to sort all your websites. I used storytime sites.

Facebook!!

I chose to do a "Facebook." I like MySpace better cuz you can make your layout more “pretty”. But Facebook is it. I can correspond with my teen granddaughters. Social networking is great but you always don't have the time to keep it up. I don't think the library needs a Facebook or MySpace page yet.

Thing # 12 – Internet Safety

There are many stories of how social networking has played dangerous roles in our children’s lives. Parents need to keep an eye out and checkup of what is being watched, and searched for on the internet by their child. BUT social networking also plays a positive role in their lives. Social networking requires them to “READ & WRITE”. When posting a comment on a blog or adds/edits content, reading and writing are required. We don’t hear much of these positive roles. Teachers are teaching social networking using Math Blogs, Author Blogs and creating newspapers. Librarians could teach and educate patrons by writing up brochures, and other handouts with information websites available. Libraries could also print out several copies of information articles to have available at checkout for patrons to see and take. We live in such a fast information age that internet is NOT going away. So we need to find out ways to help and encourage use of the social networking.
